How did Huxley come to be?

In 1881, after being farm land from 1855 the land that became Huxley town was purchased by Rebecca McDaniel. The land changed owners several times but came to be purchased by the S.S. Merrill surveyor and President of the Milwaukee Land Company.

The village of Huxley was platted and named Huxley for Merrill’s uncle Thomas Henry Huxley.

British biologist and apologist for Darwinism. Thomas Huxley was a nineteenth century author and biologist and was the grandfather of Aldous Huxley the twentieth century author.

In 1900 shows the population of Huxley at 199 people. Commissioners representing Huxley on the application for incorporation were; O.T. Watland, A.L. Kloster, Ole Ritland, Anfin Apland, Hohn T. Valen, and S. O. Wald.

Huxley became an incorporated town August 28, 1902. The final approval of incorporation was made by Judge J. R. Whitaker.
